Preventing blindness and severe visual impairment in the future thanks to AI?

That is the goal of our “AI cataract” research project. Cataracts affect almost everyone over the age of 60 sooner or later. Treatment of cataracts, known as cataract surgery, is one of the most common operations in Germany, with around 800,000 procedures performed each year. As part of the Health.AI Netzwerks, we are working on recognising the risk for patients undergoing cataract surgery in advance and providing a realistic assessment of the expected results of the operation.

We are developing a prototype that can systematically identify patterns, trends and correlations from existing data sets. In this way, we can help to facilitate treatment decisions and prevent complications.

We are extremely proud to be able to conduct research on such an important project and look forward to applying our expertise in a medical field.
